found a pretty nice purple bow doing some quests in Ascalon, but is was no where near max damage. Had an inate mod though. I spammed the local chat in Sardalac, and gave it to the only guy who opened a trade window with me. He was pretty cool about it too, thanked in public chat. I think it was like 12-17, +10% in a stance, req. 7 or some such. Not to shabby for a newbie weapon

But, I do stuff like that all the time. Who needs a season to be kind?

I hoard good stuff like superior runes and nice looking max weapons/shields, then one fine day, when i think i need some space, they all go to Ascalon and are given out to the little ones in starter armour *love*

I used to think of myself as generous, equipping a new player with a full set of armor from ascalon to get him started and giving him a green mesmer staff to boot.

Then the other day someone in the grotto gave me this for free:

(it originally had a fortitude mod on it but i swapped it out for the cheapo pommel of enchanting)

I had ppl check it for me and apparently its the HoD sword. I'm still trying to figure out what the catch was...
So to the guy in the grotto, YOU RULE!

When I get out of UW or Fow, I go to Ascalon D1 and give away all my weapons. I gave a guy in Drok's 8 gold swords/axes the other day. I found its easier to unload on one person than trying to spread the love around. A lot of people dont want free stuff. Not sure why.

I never give gold, unless its like under 100g for some armor.

And when I go to Ascalon, I always look for the non-guild member who is a low level. I like to encourage new people.

I guess it's because a lot of people are very self-conscious about acting like a 'noob' and think they might get ridiculed. It's sad how much 'noobphobia' affects freedom of play.(whoa off-topic discussion, *grabs hold of the thread idea again*

A long time ago at some kind of forumers' meeting in Yak's Bend Int district (my brother knew about it so I randomly went along - level 14), some nice guy gave me a Chaos Axe 6-28 with low attrib requirements. I was so happy, I kept using the axe with a few upgrades put on it until very recently

Yeah, I tried this last night in Ascalon D1 with a cheapo Fellblade. I had 2 nicer ones and thought I would make some new player really happy. However, I got swarmed by sellers. The first guy had Drok's or 15k armor, so I told him you don't really need it. He said, "Dude I only make like 2k per week". Yeah right and how much did you spend on that armor?

Anyways, the next guy was a level 14 ranger type so I said, OK, and gave it to him. Then after that I saw him on the !All channel selling materials and stuff. He wasn't selling my Fellblade yet, but I bet it's gone or will be soon to a good profit.

Next time I'll be a little more discreet and insist on lower levels and newly seared players. Or just friends and guildies.

Its weird...but ever since I beat the game (prophecies) I have just been helping alot of new players. Once a guy was selling junk FDS in ascalon for 250g each, which isnt a bad price...so i offered to buy them all for 200 a piece. When he asked why I said so i can give to lower lvls that don't have the cash. he was like u noob blah blah u just want to sell em and make money. I was like don't worry about it fella...so i opened trade with him and gave him a gold 13^50 req 9 long sword...for free. He PMs me back and says thats one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me in this game. so hopefully he will do something nice for someone else when he gets a chance. I give away alot of gold weapons(not perfect) but desirable and always tell the person i am giving it to, to not sell it if they find they don't need it anymore but to give it to someone less fortunate...its my attemp to PAY IF FORWARD!!! (love that idea) cuz i was helped tremendously wheni first started. My original GL bought me my first set of 15k armor so i am attemping to do my part :P

I very often give away greens and good purples, sometimes even half decent imperfect golds, in Ascalon to low levels only. Problem is I put out for example; "Giving away free green bow to level 6 or LESS ONLY RANGER". In response I get 10 level 20 warriors with full FoW armor telling me they need it. Lame, it often makes me think twice about offering stuff out for free to new players. A lot of times I can spend 5 minutes spamming to give away for free perfect greens, decent ones too, and never get any bites from anyone who meets the actuall criteria I set.

Lol, people who think like that are the noobs, what can you lose when getting given a crap item for free.

In Pre-Sear I had like 10 Blue dyes and wanted to get rid of them so I gave them to someone who was selling dyes. I didn't know the values of the dyes back then.
